Rain Pauses the SFEO; Entries Now Open for Campbellsville
The annual State Farm Etown Open was unable to complete matches this past weekend, and most of the remaining rounds are being moved to next weekend beginning Saturday July 17.
After playing several early matches on Friday evening, the tournament was off to another great start. However the overnight rain caused a 2-hour delayed start to Saturday morning play. By late afternoon, the tournament was almost back on schedule before a series of heavy rain showers came through the Elizabethtown area shortly before 5pm. This ended play for the day and set up a tight schedule for Sunday.
However, Sunday contained no tennis action at all due to morning showers that would linger off-and-on most of the day. By 10am an announcement was made that matches would have to resume next Saturday under a revised play schedule. Players were given the opportunity to communicate with opponents beforehand to mutually arrange matches sooner if possible. A revised play schedule will be released on Wednesday night.
While we look forward to the remaining matches in Elizabethtown, entry is NOW OPEN for the Miller Park Tennis Classic in Campbellsville (July 24-25). After a closed members-only event in 2020 due to the Covid-19 shutdown at Campbellsville University, all 12 tournament courts are available once again for a capacity event. Online registration and payment are up and running with an entry deadline of Tuesday July 20 at 6:00 PM EDT.
For questions about the delayed State Farm Etown Open or the upcoming Miller Park Tennis Classic, please reach out to the directors (or entry contact) for those events.
